My smile is very gummy. Normally, this isn't SO bad, but my two front teeth are slightly longer than the rest of my teeth--not as prominent as buck teeth, but still noticable. So, together, this makes me self-conscious about my smile. However, my teeth aren't crooked. Would braces fix these issues? If not, would something else? Thanks.
Can braces fix a gummy smile?
yes
Reply:Gummy smiles are beautiful, nothing to fix. No, braces won't do that. Embrace it!
Reply:u should consider braces since u dont have really that much work on ur teeth to do the braces might be on for a little time so i think you should go and ask ur dentist about braces

Gummy Teeth
Often times teeth may appear uneven and asymmetric due to the uneven level of gums. One tooth may appear shorter than its matching tooth on the opposite side mainly because the gum levels are different. This can easily be corrected with laser gum lift to reveal the hiding tooth and create symmetry. However, if the teeth are still misshapen, porcelain veneers are necessary to bring brilliance and luster and just an overall pleasing smile.

Reply:I think so but i'm not sure...go to the orthodontist for a consultation becasue they would have to see it first...you can't just tell....
Reply:rabbit teeth? how is that gummy? maybe cute too...well its probably appears that way from a overbite..i got a slight one but i never got braces. my smile is cheeky...maybe your too hard on yourself? your picture ain't look gummy...try getting braces if it bugs you...get it bugs?? bunny??? lol..braces are expensive...try to just be happy you ain't got crooked teeth...smile more and stop being overly critical of yourself.
Reply:braces are to fix teeth i dont think it fixes gums
Reply:usually ur two front teeth r larger than the other teeth....if your teeth arent crooked theres not point in getting braces...if your front teeth are bigger than your other teeth its a good thing and it means nothing is wrong with your smile
Reply:Braces only serve to correct malocclusion. Occlusion relates to how the jaw and teeth are positioned and aligned with each other.
As you may see, gums aren't the reason people wear braces.
A gummy smile can be surgically minimized with a rather simple operation. Talk to your dentist about a referral to an oral-maxillofacial surgeon.
Reply:Sometimes braces can move teeth so that the gummy smile isn't too noticeable. Sometimes a periodontist can do a procedure to raise your gums up a bit so that they don't show when you smile. Sometimes it is a combination of treatment (braces, gum remodeling).
Sometimes you can get veneers or crowns on the front teeth to change their appearance and shape.
Sometimes, if you have a lot of gum tissue showing when you smile you need surgery on your upper jaw ... basically they can move your upper jaw up so it changes the position of all of your teeth/gums.
You should get a consult from an orthodontist to see what your options are. They will take x-rays of your head and make measurements of your skull and facial bones to determine what can be done.
Good luck!

Reply:Braces wont help a gummy smile. The only way, oral surgery. It normally isn't that bad, and most dentist will do it. They just remove some of the gums (tissue) and made it so when you smile, your top lips reaches the top of your front teeth. It called crown lengthening. It looks so nice when patients have it done. It sounds bad, but it really isn't. Ask your dentist about it.
