I just got my braces off a couple days ago and am very disappointed in the results. The ortho I go to is actually pretty popular and very accredited, so I know he know what he's doing. Still, after 2+ years with braces I STILL have buck teeth! Granted, they arent as bad as they were before, but im still not happy with it. When I smile I can feel the teeth pushing against my bottom lip. It just doesn't feel right. It's been almost a week and I thought maybe I just needed to get used to it, but even my mom noticed that they weren't as straight as they should be. I have another appointment to pick up my retainers next week. What should I say? Do I have any options to fix this problem? I know retainers just hold the teeth in place and dont actually move them, so does this mean im screwed?
Not happy with my orthodontic work! What do i do!?
When you go in next week to get your retainers, I'd arrange to sit down to talk to your orthodontist. I'd be frank and say that your results aren't what you expected. Be specific when you talk about what aspects you're not happy with. Ask if the retainers will remedy these problems. Even if the doctor says yes, be prepared to ask, "Well, if the retainers DON'T correct these concerns, what are my options?"
Your orthodontist should care about whether or not you're pleased with your results. After all, you didn't spend (insert number of years here) in braces to have improperly aligned teeth. Just remember that you paid this person to do this work, and you shouldn't settle for anything short of straight teeth.
Reply:well when you have buck teeth your teeth are long, unless he cut/shaved them, they ain't getting any shorter. so he should have shaved them.
anyways most people are amazed with the results, so i think you should seriously negotiate with your ortho.. it's not fair.
congratulations for getting treatment, this is the people's fault, not yours.
merry christmas!
Reply:As long as you're teeth are straight then they worked.
Buck teeth can sometimes be caused by either you're two front teeth growing in too much or you're gums receding.
Braces can't help buck teeth, only straighten them.
You're probably stuck with buck teeth.
Reply:No orthodontist can get rid of buck teeth--it's the natural structure of your tooth. You may want to have a discussion with your dentist.
Reply:ERIKA,
TAKE YOUR PARENTS WITH YOU AND TOGETHER VOICE YOUR CONCERNS TO THE DOCTOR. THIS IS SURE TO GIVE YOU SATISFACTION.
Reply:what you need to do is ask your ortho to shave your teeth down so they are shorter. he will use the same tool as he did to get the glue off your teeth when you get your braces off. when i got mine off, the bottom edges of my teeth were jagged and he smoothed them out with it. he could do the same thing to make them shorter.
