I have impacted wisdom teeth. I have known this for awhile, but you know how money is tight when your in college..and kids...anyway now that I have insurance, the dentist is telling me they need to come out or my other teeth beside them may fall out. The x-rays do show two of my wisdom teeth that are horizontal and going into the root area of the teeth beside them. Problem is my insurance covers only 50% and I am in no pain..I am a year into my job and really do not have the extra 1,000 bucks to spare. Am I safe to keep these guys in for another 6-7 months ( I can save up for awhile) any input is welcome!!!
I have impacted wisdom teeth. Will they cause my other teeth to come out if I don%26#039;t get them removed?
Talk to your DDS. Most understand financial limitations. Some will allow a payment plan. Ask him if you can wait a few months. The risk with impacted wisdom teeth is you never know when they%26#039;ll flare up and cause a problem. You could be fine for a few years...then again, they could flare up tomorrow.
I would definitely get them done while you have dental coverage. Also, if you can put money away in an FSA you can access the funds early in January even though you%26#039;ll have to contribute all next year. That means if you put aside $1000 in an FSA (pretax) and begin in Jan. You can get the wisdom teeth out in Jan. Submit the expense to dental insurance and FSA and the DDS gets paid right away. You continue to fund your FSA throughout the year and do not need to wait until you%26#039;ve contributed the full amount.
Reply:the tooth can fall out because the impacted tooth can destroy the root of the other tooth by absorbing the calcium Report It
Reply:I dont think they%26#039;ll fall out, but it does make keeping them clean difficult since it%26#039;s hard to clean between teeth that are crowded.
Reply:They won%26#039;t make the other teeth come out, but instead your teeth will all shift until you will most likely need surgery and then braces to fix the damage.
Your best bet is to get the impacted wisdom teeth outed.
Reply:The infection could spread through your whole body.
Go to a dentist or doctor. Get anti-biotics. Have them out.
Reply:I would suspect that you would be ok for a short time but I wouldn%26#039;t play around with it. If your wisdom teeth damage the roots of your molars, your other teeth will have problems which will be expensive, particularily if they don%26#039;t just fall out. What if they slowly die and have to be removed by the dentist? That would be very costly as well. Would your dentist be willing to put you on a payment plan? If so, maybe you should go ahead with it. I wouldn%26#039;t play around with your dental health. You only have this set to last you for the rest of your life.
Reply:impacted 3rd molars can push against the 2nd molars and erode the root system or the back of the tooth all the way to the nerve. i have seen it happen and often those 2nd molars cannot be saved because the problem is below the gum or bone line.
without your xrays - i cannot tell you if you have time to spare but if you can%26#039;t do it- you simply cannot- so hope for the best but be prepared for the possibilty of complications
Reply:Well, that depends. How old are you? And how much pressure, if any,. the wisdom teeth are pressing on your 2nd molar roots. In general you should be OK to wait a few months. Is the price $2,000 total? That seems a bit high. Will an oral surgeon be removing them? You may want to call around and get prices from others that accept your insurance, consultations are normally free. Or make payment with a credit card and transfer the balance to a new 0% card; or ask if they offer 3rd party financing (usually at 0% or %26lt;2%).
Reply:They may want you to take out these teeth because they are causing perio pocketing around your second molars. Without x-rays and perio charting (where they probed your gums and good numbers were between 1-3), I couldn%26#039;t tell you if 6-7 months is safe to wait. I%26#039;ve seen many people loose their teeth due to perio disease. Best advise? Call your dentist and see what he has to say. Good luck
