I lost my retainer nearly a week ago and have had my braces off for nearly five months. I have a permanent retainer behind my top front teeth (only on the two buck ones, I hope you know what I%26#039;m talking about). My mom had the dentist put the permanent retainer behind my front teeth b/c she knew that I%26#039;d lose the removeable one or swallow it or something. Will my teeth still shift anyway? Before I had the braces on the only problem with my teeth was that there was a gap in between the top ones.
If I don%26#039;t wear my reatiner will my teeth shift?
They will shift. I learned the hard way.
Reply:Heh heh. Thanx! It%26#039;s a good thing that I found my retainer the other day! Report It
Reply:Lynn,
w/o knowing what type of issue was fixed by the original orthodontics, it%26#039;s impossible to give you a definite answer for this.
Contact your doctor and have him/her make you a new one.
Reply:Yes they will.
Reply:my stepmom didnt wear her retainer and her teeth shifted.
i hope mine don%26#039;t do that when i get mine off :[
Reply:yes they will, my friend didnt wear them and his teeth shifted and he had to get braces all over again
Reply:yes, your teeth will shift if you don%26#039;t wear your retainer. that is what happened to my sister. the more you wear your retainer the less time you will have to wear it. good luck.
Reply:Since you have the permanent retainer behind your front teeth you should be ok but your other teeth will shift without having your retainer. Even if they were straight before you had your braces they were still moved when you got the braces put on so they will shift. Go have another retainer made. I made the mistake of not having mine replaced and my teeth have shifted and I need to have braces again.
