My daughter sucks her thumb, will it riun her teeth??

She is 4 now, and has been sucking her thrumb for a while, we cannot get her to stop. Will this cause her front teeth to grow outwards, or cause buck teeth?

But it can also be very scary having to give it up all of a sudden for a little one.


Try some bitter nail biting paint on her thumb BUT give her a chance to get attached to a new comforter first.

Reply:No, it will make her happy and give her a soothing sensation. It will do nothing but dry her teeth a bit.
Reply:it probably will, i sucked my thumb til i was 11 and i had to have special braces that would pinch my thumb when i tried to suck it. i also pushed all my bottom teeth back and mt front teeth forwards and needed train track braces to sort it out so if you can get her to stop it would be best for her. my daughter sucked hers but she grew out of it by the time she was 1 and my 3 month old son sucks his so im hoping he%26#039;ll grow out of it too!!
Reply:It can and does cause a lot of damage to developing teeth. You should really try to get on top of it now, at 4 it will be easier for her to stop that to let it become a long term habit.
Reply:My neice, who is now 12 sicked her thumb til she was about 10, she will need braces, but I personally think it%26#039;s best to let her grow out of it rather than forcing things,


my son sucked his fingers but he grew out of that at five.


Thumb sucking is like bedwetting, they will stop someday.
Reply:Yes, It will. There are several ways to get them to stop. Go talk to a dr. There are sprays that taste gross, but are no way harmful. Offer to paint her nails if she dosent. My rents used to put on a band aid before we would rest.
Reply:I don%26#039;t mean to scare you, but I sucked my thumb til age 6, and I later had to wear braces for 7 years. Then I had to wear a retainer til I was 20. This is because my front teeth were pushed forward and my lower jaw was actually set backwards.
Reply:I sucked my fingers - two of - until I was 18 and everyone comments - even the dentist that I have perfect teeth! The only thing Id say is that my fingers a slightly different the my other hand - they look slightly shriveled.
Reply:Yes I know a girl who sucked her thumb up until she was 17...now there is only one thing about that girl keeps her from being absolutely geourgeous, her horse teeth!
