Any suggestions to get my 3 and a half year old to stop sucking thumb at nap and bedtime.?

i could really use your help with this as i really hope to avoid "buck teeth" thank you for your time and cansideration!!

Any suggestions to get my 3 and a half year old to stop sucking thumb at nap and bedtime.?
My son is 4 1/2 and still sucks his thumb..He's slowed it down a bit..I tell him that is not what "Big Boys"do..still he tries..when I catch him,he takes his thumb out.He had a visit to the dentist,she told him to definitely STOP..she told him he has beautiful teeth..Also,he will need braces if he doesn't quit.I am proud of the progress he has shown lately.Although,I may consider getting a thumb guard..which is something you could possibly look into..good luck!!

Reply:You might want to try putting vinegar on his "sucking" finger..as a last resort you may want to try some Tabasco. Something very unpleasant. Sucking thumbs at 3 1/2 can lead to serious dental issues. You are right to want to stop it soon.

Reply:The Thumb Guard. It's kind of expensive but it TOTALLY WORKS!! My son was an uncontrollable thumb sucker. We had tried everything we could think of. He would suck his thumb all day long. We bought this from the onestepahead.com catalog for $65 as a last resort. My son was 19 months old at the time. He stopped sucking his thumb in 2 weeks.





Unfortunately, my son's teeth look like a jack-o-lantern. Oh well...one day these baby teeth will fall out and he'll get permanent teeth. Then he'll probably need braces anyway.
