I had braces in 6th grade...and I got a couple of retainers but lost them both so I didn't wear either one for long enough at all. But now I am in 11th grade and i notice that my teeth are moving and starting to stick out a little bit (not as extreme as buck teeth...but still) I really regret having lost it and I was wondering if I went into an orthadontist now they could make me a new retainer. or would I have to get braces ALL OVER again? (in that case I couldnt do anything b/c my parents arnt going to pay for braces for me again) retainer is the only option. But would that work? Is it to late?
Can I get a retainer years after I get my braces off?
yes just go see your orthodaontist again so they can give you another one
Reply:Only the Dentist can truly answer this one. But its worth a try the earlier the better. A friend of mine was in the same situation and he got a retainer after about 2 years of no braces. Your teeth have to basically still appear straight and sure you can still get one. But dont wait hurry your butt over to the dentist before your teeth move 1cm tooo far and a retainer becomes outta the question
Reply:ya sure, y not?
Reply:Let me first explain you the way your mouth grows so that you can picture what's going on.
When you were in 6th grade your bone was still not 100% developed, which means that the position of your teeth will change accordingly, so when you were in 6th grade your teeth was in one position which is completely different than what they are now.
So the best thing to do is to go back to your orthodontist if you're still in touch with him/her, and let him evaluate your case, you may need to do braces for a short time, before getting a new pair of retainers again.
Reply:well the dentist cannot MAKE YOU get braces if you only want a retainer.. so jsut say that's all you want and can afford or something like that
